When traveling, I always take my camera; especially when going to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I was excited to once again photograph the Lower Harbor Lighthouse in the winter time, as it had been a few years since doing this. On the drive up, I envisioned a snow covered beach, ice encrusted rocks, and maybe even a Christmas wreath hanging from the lighthouse. As it turns out, I didn’t get any of those. In fact, I shot the frames while wearing a just jeans and a sweatshirt… I felt like a tough Yooper again… that is until I saw a few college guys to my right that had their seasons mixed up. They were having a beach party, along with a cooler, lawn chairs, beach volleyball, and yes, even swimming. Now, I’m a Yooper at heart, but you won’t ever get me to do a polar plunge. These guys weren’t doing it to raise awareness or for charity, however. They were doing it for fun (or because they’re crazy). Unfortunately they were packing up as I was unpacking, so I was unable to get some shots of them. I did, however, come away with this shot of the lighthouse, sort of representing winter.
